The pop singer added some rock n' roll to his look with a metallic tie and wild hair, that I'm pretending I styled by running my fingers through it." See more great pics from Socialitelife here.

Miss America: 'Marriage should be between a man and a woman'

"Caressa Cameron, a 22-year-old Virginia woman who said she once thought her only talent was singing is the newest Miss America," reports The Winnipeg Free Press. "Cameron, the first black Miss America since Ericka Dunlap in 2005, says she wants to get a master's degree and eventually become a news anchor. During the Miss Virginia pageant last year, Cameron was asked her opinion about gay marriage, the same issue Miss California Carrie Prejean was asked about during the Miss USA pageant two months earlier. Hand-held cellphone bans NOT curbing car crashes

"A new U.S. insurance industry study has found that state laws banning the use of hand-held devices to make calls or send text messages while driving have not resulted in fewer vehicle crashes," reports the CBC. "The study, released Friday by the Highway Loss Data Institute, examined insurance claims from crashes before and after such bans took effect in California, New York, Connecticut and Washington, D.C. The organization found that claims rates did not go down after the laws were enacted. It also found no change in patterns compared with nearby states without such bans."

Adrian Lund, the group's president, said the finding doesn't bode well "for any safety payoff from all the new laws." READ MORE

  • Hawaii says NO to same-sex civil unions bill

"Hawaii lawmakers declined to vote Friday on a bill that would have allowed same-sex civil unions, effectively doing away with the measure," reports The Associated Press. "State House leaders said a narrow majority of representatives would have voted for civil unions, but they decided to indefinitely postpone a decision on whether to grant gay and lesbian couples the same rights and benefits the state provides to married couples. The state Senate had approved a civil unions bill last week. But House leadership wavered on pushing the controversial issue. Last year, 33 of 51 House members voted in favor of civil unions."

Civil union supporters in the crowded House gallery on Friday shouted, “Shame on you!” while opponents cheered. “It’s an election year, and they’re more concerned about keeping their seats than doing what’s right,” said Stephen Nagle of Kaaawa, wearing a rainbow lei in support of civil unions.
